Fold equity

The extra value of a bet that comes from the chance an opponent folds.

In depth

**Fold equity** refers to the additional value a bet gains from the possibility that an opponent will fold. This concept accounts for the immediate pot-winning potential of a bet or raise, even when the bettor’s hand may not currently be the strongest. It highlights how aggressive plays can generate value beyond showdown equity by leveraging opponents’ folding tendencies.
