A pocket pair is a starting hand in Texas hold'em consisting of two hole cards of the same rank, such as pocket deuces (2-2) through pocket aces (A-A). This hand forms an immediate pair before the flop, distinguishing it from unpaired hands that require board interaction to develop strength. The value of a pocket pair depends on its rank, with higher pairs generally stronger than lower ones.
